"Construction of the St. Lambertus Kirche began in the 14th century, when, apparently, high-quality contractors were as hard to find as they are today. The tower of the church, an iconic part of the D├╝sseldorf skyline, is decidedly less than vertical. How exactly the spire came to lean so much is unclear, but the most plausible local legend has it that the wood that was used to build the church was wet, and it expanded after it dried, sending the tower off in more creative directions."
